A worthwhile program, the Apprenticeship Skills Achievement Program (ASAP) might have ended in April 2012.
"ASAP is designed to help Northeast Ohio minorities gain entry into the building and construction trades."

We urge you to contact Congresswoman Marcia Fudge, and Senator Sherrod Brown and ask that the U.S. Department of Labor continue to keep the program alive (to keep funding it).

Didn't a local plumber's union support Mayor Lansky's bid for mayor last year? And didn't Lansky launch an aggressive, disgusting and negative campaign against his female African American opponent who many people consider the "Mother of Maple Heights"?
After reading the article by Naymik, I now understand why that local plumber's union supported Lansky. I'm thinking that local is probably all white men or almost all white men, just like the all white male leadership and department heads.
And yep, Maple Heights is around 70% African American.
Things seldom change in Maple Heights. Black folks keep getting the shaft, and they continue to stay silent.
YEAH, IF THEY WERE ALL WHITE MALE PLUMBERS, THEY PROBABLY DIDN'T LIVE IN MAPLE HEIGHTS EITHER LIKE MOST OF THE MAPLE HEIGHTS PUBLIC EMPLOYEES (ESP. HIGH PAID ONES) AND CONTRACTORS (INCLUDING PLUMBERS?)
LOOKS LIKE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS ARE GOING TO WHITE MALES ESPECIALLY WHO DON'T LIVE IN MAPLE HTS, WHILE PEOPLE WHO DO LIVE IN MAPLE HEIGHTS GET CRUMBS OFF THE TABLE AND CONTINUE TO LOSE THEIR JOBS AND THEIR HOMES TO FORECLOSURE.
AND PROBABLY THERE ARE SOME BLACKS WHO CAN BE BOUGHT FOR 30 PIECES OF SILVER TO BETRAY THE MAJORITY OF BLACKS WHO MAKE UP 70% OR MORE OF THE POPULATION OF MAPLE HTS BY SUPPORTING PEOPLE WHO KEEP HIRING PEOPLE (the majority of whom) AREN'T BLACK (and don't live in Maple Hts) AND WHO RECEIVE MILLIONS OF MAPLE HEIGHTS TAX PAYER DOLLARS.

Nope there is one Black woman who heads the Human Resources department.
There are 9 departments. We should have a picture of all department heads so we could see that a. the outsourced building dept is headed by a white male b. the economic development department is headed by a white female c. the finance department is headed by a white male d. the fire department is headed by a white male e. the human resources department is headed by a black female f. the law department is headed by a white male g. parks and recreation department is headed by a white h. services department is headed by a white i. police department is headed by a white male
