There’s been a lot of talk about African
American young men wearing sagging pants. Residents and people who don't live in
Maple Heights have commented on why sagging pants are allowed in Maple Heights
schools. If there's a dress code, why isn't it enforced?
In an article by Kirsten West Savali, dated July 12,
2012,
Kirsten
states "The price tags on our youth’s
sagging jeans are nothing more than potential inmate numbers in disguise."
"Even more than the misappropriation of the
word “nigga” as a term of endearment, the cultural phenomenon of sagging pants speaks exclusively to the institutionalized brainwashing of black America.
If hip-hop is the voice of a
generation, ass-sagging pants is the
uniform. And both are rooted in a
rebellion so entrenched that many black men proudly regurgitate, through words
and attire,
the tell-tale sign of psychological ownership. If we could delve beneath the often exploitative lyrics of poverty, violence, drug consumption and slangin’, we might recognize that the price tags on our youth’s sagging jeans are nothing more than potential inmate numbers in disguise."

“In prison you aren't allowed
to wear belts to prevent self-hanging or the hanging of others,” Judge Greg
Mathis said in a 2007 interview for Jet magazine. "They take the belt and sometimes your pants hang down. ... Many cultures of the prison have overflowed into the community unfortunately,” continued Mathis, who spent time in Detroit’s Wayne County Jail as a youth. “Those who pulled their pants down the lowest and showed their behind a little more raw, that was an invitation. [The youth] don't know this part about it."

Exactly my question too
What I've noticed about (far too many) African Americans (esp. our children) is their poor manners/etiquette, lack of knowledge and interest in politics and history, low self-esteem, poor communication skills (which includes public speaking, reading and writing), poor math skills, inability to manage their anger, and problems focusing.
A disappointing number of African Americans also lack knowledge of their own history and ancestry.
Does Maple Heights (schools) have courses/classes in ethics, civics (which should be required), African American history, and etiquette? If not, there should be.
What languages are taught in Maple Heights schools? What foreign languages are required to graduate?
If our children desire to become president, or hob knob with the rich/famous/powerful, or interact with leaders of other nations, or compete for high-level positions, they must have certain skills outside of academics. For example: When interviewing for a high level position, the interviewer will be listening to the candidate's speech, his/her tone, observing how they walk/sit .....
The interviewer will look to see if the candidate exhibits proper etiquette when at a lunch or dinner interview? Does the candidate dress appropriately? Is the candidate relaxed, but also respectful? Does the candidate interact well with others?
Does the candidate exhibit leadership skills?
My personal opinion is that our schools are not educating our children properly, and they are not taught essential skills to help them succeed.
Does the Maple Heights schools keep a record of every student who graduates or fails to graduate? What are these students doing now, and where are they now .. and I did say every student. How can a school district (principal, teachers, superintendent) tell if it has done a good job if they don't know what the graduates are doing?
NEW SCHOOLS:
5800 Glenwood (near Dunham) Barack Obama elementary School
6009 Dunham Abraham Lincoln elementary school
5933 Dunham JFK elementary school
Who knows what Stafford is (middle, elementary)
550 Clement Drive Maple Heights High School
Why all the elementary schools, and why are they over near Rockside?
What happened to Raymond Elementary School? ... looks like they started construction on something. Now there's just a vacant piece of land.
Somebody needs to look at these construction projects, and those contractors.
Their making extra principal payments on that 50 million dollar school bond, but yet they want Maple Heights residents to approve a levy. Even if the levy doesn't raise taxes now, that money could go somewhere else.
