HABARI GANI: IMANI - FAITH

The name Kwanzaa is derived from the phrase “matunda ya kwanza” which means “first fruits” in Swahili. [HISTORY OF KWANZAA]


Habari Gani is a Swahili term meaning What’s the news?” It is used when greeting others during Kwanzaa. The appropriate response is to say the name of the principle for that day.
