ESOP Announces New Executive Director
Roslyn Quarto brings vast experience
in low-income housing, real estate law and government
advocacy.
CLEVELAND, OH – As Empowering and
Strengthening Ohio’s People enters its 20th year the Board of
Trustees has hired Roslyn
“Roz” Quarto to lead the agency as its new Executive
Director.
“I'm thrilled to join ESOP at this pivotal time,” says Quarto. “With the help of the great staff and Board that Mark has assembled, I plan to build on the tremendous successes of the past while seeking future growth for the organization for the benefit of all Ohioans as we continue to stabilize and strengthen our communities.”
Quarto was selected from more than 100 applicants and brings vast experience in low-income housing, real estate law and government advocacy to the position. Roz is currently getting to know all of ESOP’s key processes, stakeholders, and partners. She will officially take the helm on Monday, May 20th.
“Roz brings a wealth of energy and skills to this position and can only take ESOP to higher places,” said Mark Seifert, ESOP’s current Executive Director. Mark’s last day will be May 17th.
"As the Executive Director Mark has clearly positioned ESOP as a leader in foreclosure prevention, counseling, and organizing,” said Barbara Anderson, ESOP’s Board President. “It is on this strong foundation that we will continue to build. I believe that we have selected someone who will expand upon the organization's strengths and create new opportunities for partnerships."
Roz was instrumental in bringing the Gay Games to Cleveland in 2014. As part of the selection process she made several trips to Cleveland and fell in love with the city. She relocated here from New York City last fall.
Some of Roz’s professional highlights include:
Juris Doctor from St. John’s University School of Law
Associate Executive Director of Urban Homestead Assistance Board, New York, New York: In this not-for-profit position, Roz was dedicated to transforming renters into homeowners who ultimately managed and developed their own buildings. She helped 20,000 tenants-to-owners preserve over 1000 buildings.
Director of Operations: “New York in 94, Inc.”: In this not-for-profit, Roz was responsible for developing and managing an international event dedicated to promote Gay Rights through sports. This event included 11,000 athletes from 45 countries, participating in 31 sports throughout all five boroughs of New York City.
Director – Mayor’s Office of Single Room Only (SRO) Housing and Development: In this role, Roz was responsible for administering a $25 million dollar budget dedicated to coordinating, monitoring, and administering New York City’s SRO development, including the preservation and improvement of housing programs for homeless families and people with HIV/AIDS housed in SROs.
Assistant Commissioner for Homeless Housing and Development: This is the largest municipal developer of affordable housing in the United States, providing over $50 million dollars annually to support the repair, rehabilitation, and new construction of housing units in New York City. In this role, she had management oversight of over 100 employees, a $30 million dollar budget, and 15,000 homeless housing units.
Deputy Executive Director – New York City Sports Commission: Roz planned, managed, and led the operations of several large-scale sporting events throughout all five boroughs of New York City, including the New York City Inner City Games. This was an annual sports festival for 10,000 inner city children in eight sports.
Managing Partner – Quarto, Lopez, LLP: Quarto, Lopez, LLP was a general law practice with a concentration on real estate and not-for-profit law. Clients included national banks and low-income not-for-profit organizations.
Roz is also a member of the Greater Cleveland Steering Committee of the Human Rights Campaign. She is a founding member of The Center Community Mediations Services/Project Resolve.

HISTORICALLY BLACK COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES STILL STANDING, STILL RELEVANT AND STILL POWERFUL
The other day, two proud, gifted and Black women who hadn't spoken at length for some time, but were connected in sisterhood and deeply held beliefs, talked with great pride about the accomplishments of African Americans.
An hour later, the conversation turned to Black Colleges, and specifically the 105 Historically Black Colleges and Universities that despite all the trials and tribulations in the lives of Black people, these colleges still proudly stand, still relevant, and powerful ..............
An hour later, the conversation turned to Black Colleges, and specifically the 105 Historically Black Colleges and Universities that despite all the trials and tribulations in the lives of Black people, these colleges still proudly stand, still relevant, and powerful ..............
There remains a distorted cynical view of African Americans, and the myth that only white people can be great leaders, movers and shakers. It is sad when Black people buy into these lies, distortions and myths because these beliefs will likely stunt their academic, psychological, emotional and economic growth.
***What Historically Black Colleges and Universities have done best, is empower Black students, and have created a lasting and indelible legacy of Black leadership.***
Why Historically Black Colleges Remain Relevant by Beverly Daniel Tatum (President, Spellman College) Feb 22, 2010
"Consider the fact that while the 105 public and private HBCUs make up only 3% of today's colleges and universities, more than 20% of all African-American college graduates attended an HBCU. Particularly in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), where Black students are woefully under-represented in most predominantly white institutions, HBCUs have demonstrated great effectiveness in fostering academic success." ... GREEN FOR ALL - PEOPLE OF COLOR ARE HELPING SAVE THE PLANET
Find
out what Green For All is doing this Earth Day!
As we prepare to celebrate Earth Day on April 22, I’m amazed and deeply
encouraged by all of the progress that’s being made to build a brighter,
healthier, and more sustainable future. And more and more of these efforts—from
campus recycling initiatives to national clean energy legislation—are being led
by people of color.
And you can join them! We have some great events this Earth Day, from Broccoli City’s festival in D.C., to an #Earthdaylive 2-hour live stream broadcast. Join Green For All and the League of Young Voters Education Fund for music, videos, and live interviews, with an engaging look at the problems our communities face, and the people creating the most effective solutions. Check out our slamming video here for more about #Earthdaylive!
One of the young leaders who inspires me
most is Brittany Stalworth. As a Green For All Ambassador
at Howard University, Stalworth launched “Green is the New Black,” an initiative
that engaged college students in issues like environmental justice, food
justice, and green jobs.
More and more musicians like Drake, Wiz Khalifa, Ludacris, Common, Cee Lo, and others are speaking out on behalf of the planet. Countless business leaders are part of the solution, too. Take a look at 23-year-old Aisha Dorsey. She started her own company in Baltimore helping protect homeowners and the environment from risks like asbestos and lead.
And in Washington, D.C., the Congressional Black Caucus continues to lead the way in protecting America’s clean air and water, while President Obama and Lisa Jackson (the first African American head of the Environmental Protection Agency) have created groundbreaking protections for our air and water.
The challenges facing our planet are daunting. But we can solve them—in fact, we already are. Together, we can do even more to protect our air and water and build healthier, more prosperous communities. But we need your help.
Sincerely,
Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins
Chief Executive Officer
Green For All
NATIONAL MUSEUM OF AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY AND CULTURE UNDER CONSTRUCTION
CLICK HERE TO VIEW VIDEO |
Here's your chance to look into the future! Click on this link to find a very
special video I hope you will
view.
The video connects you to an exciting two-and-a-half minute
computer animation — known as a “fly-through” — that takes you through a
conceptual rendering of Smithsonian's National Museum of African American
History and Culture.
The video dramatically depicts what your support is helping to create. It is
a vision that you can truly be proud of!
Beginning with a montage of African American history makers, the video flies over our beautiful National Mall in Washington,
D.C. You’ll see the Museum itself taking virtual shape at 14th Street
and Constitution Avenue NW, right across from the Smithsonian's American History
Museum. Then you’ll go inside for a “guided tour” of galleries, exhibitions and
more, ending with a view of the building glowing with lights at
night.
What makes this video so exciting is the knowledge that, thanks to you
and your fellow Charter Members and Supporters, the museum building is rapidly
becoming a reality. Construction is underway and our doors will open in late
2015!
You are playing a tremendous role in building the National Museum of African
American History and Culture already. I offer the heartfelt gratitude to you
from all of us here at the Museum.
All the best, | |
Lonnie G. Bunch Director |
P.S. I hope you’ll forward this message to friends and family who need to know
that, finally, African American history and culture will be getting a much
deserved and long overdue place of honor on the National Mall in Washington,
D.C. Again, thank you!
